Allan Cameron
Executive Coach and Facilitator, Creating...
Individual, Family and Systems Psychotherapist
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Consultant

Allan has spent the last twenty-five years immersed in the dynamics of personal, inter-personal and organizational change. As a young man, Allan was a forest ranger in the wilds of Northern Ontario which reflected his deep love for nature. Although good for his soul, this career path was missing the critical element of human interaction that he required.

  Allan Cameron

After a formative Outward Bound Experience which was augmented by a semester at the National Outdoor Leadership School in the U.S., Allan began working in experiential education in the wilderness with juvenile delinquents. These programs, though effective, lacked context; at that point Allan decided to become an individual, family and systems psychotherapist which he has done in various agencies and in private practice for the last twenty years.

Allan has had a long-standing interest in the corporate world, so ten years ago he expanded his practise to include working with the Employee Assistance Program in one of Canada's largest banks. This led naturally to developing a corporate coaching practise. Allan is very interested in expanding the use of emotional intelligence in different corporate cultures. His relationship with Creating's President Cathy Bernatt was established twenty-five years ago when both were working within experiential education in Toronto. They recently collaborated on an international presentation for Outward Bound Instructors on the importance of emotional intelligence and facilitation. Allan is committed to working more closely with Creating... and to further developing and expanding the role of emotional intelligence and executive coaching in the corporate culture.

As a corporate coach, he espouses and models the values of: respect, collaboration, curiosity and optimism. In the coach-client relationship he views the client as having the innate resources to apply to the ongoing challenges of the corporate world. He is an expert at defining and clarifying the constraints that may be active in preventing a client's potential from emerging. His focus is on the development of present and future competencies that can be applied to the rigorous demands of corporate life in order to execute best solutions.

Allan received his Masters in Social Work from the University of Toronto, with a speciality in counselling with a Systems Perspective applied to individuals, groups and organizations. He has pursued ongoing professional therapeutic training including: Gestalt, Eriksonian Brief Hypnosis and work with counter transference. He contributed to the initial development of his organization's 360 degree feedback coaching model and has coached to the model since its inception. He regularly coaches participants in this enterprise's managerial leadership development program. Allan has expert knowledge in the area of Emotional Intelligence and has received certification in two of the validated models. He most recently contributed to the development of the Emotional Intelligence component for the Bank's HR Curriculum Pilot Project and subsequent cohorts providing coaching to the participants.

Allan has wide ranging interests including all season tripping in the wilderness, opera, and hockey. He is currently making himself crazy while trying to decipher James Joyce.

"Action has meaning only in relationship and without understanding relationship, action on any level will only breed conflict. The understanding of relationship is infinitely more important than the search for any plan of action."
J. Krishnamurti
